Herbal Recipe: Hawthorn, Ginger and Cinnamon Heart-Warming Tea
New Moon: February 27th

In February, the cold lingers, yet beneath the frost lies potential. This month invites us to cultivate warmth—in our bodies, hearts, and relationships. Herbal energetics and actions that are particularly useful during this time include warming and stimulating herbs to improve circulation, such as ginger and cinnamon, as well as nourishing and tonifying herbs like hawthorn berry to support the heart. These herbs work energetically to counteract the cold and stagnation of winter, fostering both physical and emotional resilience. Cinnamon and ginger bring a fiery comfort to chilly days, while hawthorn berry nurtures the heart, both physically and emotionally. These herbs remind us to cherish connection and self-love.
While February offers a subtle promise of light returning, the cold and dryness still prevail. The Fire element’s warmth is essential now, especially for those of us with constitutions prone to cold. The warmth of the fire element can subsequently increase dryness, so those with dry constitutions may need to be mindful to include moistening foods and herbs this month.
Heat therapy is my favorite way to enjoy warmth during the cold months. Saunas, Epsom salt baths, and even heating pads can provide soothing comfort, helping to relax tense muscles and promote circulation. These practices not only warm the body but also create moments of self-care, reducing stress and encouraging a deeper connection with oneself.

Cooking with warming culinary spices is another delightful way to infuse your days with heat and vitality. Spices like cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, clove, and black pepper are known for their warming properties and can be easily incorporated into meals and beverages. From spiced soups and stews to warm chai teas, these spices provide both physical and emotional nourishment.
Practicing gratitude is a powerful way to cultivate inner warmth. Keeping a gratitude list encourages us to focus on the blessings in our lives, fostering a deeper sense of appreciation for the people, experiences, and small joys that enrich our days. It helps us avoid taking life for granted, reminding us of the beauty in the ordinary and the extraordinary alike.
Small gestures create ripples. What could you do this month to cultivate warmth around you? How do you nurture emotional warmth in your relationships?
